Friday. And A Fun "Competition".

Many of you know that I write... I mean torture myself with the fourth book and, you may have guessed it already, it is about the events of 2021-2023. Geopolitics and war. I thought to title the book Vom Kriege (On War), but then I remembered that some German (Prussian, really) dude wrote the book with this title in 1830s, wink, wink. The Art of War was also taken by this nasty Chinese plagiarist who beat me to it about 2.5 thousand years before, LOL. Strategy title was taken by Alexander Svechin. So, you see how difficult is my life. Now, for shits and giggles, knowing what I do and what I write and against the background of the events of the last two years, who would dare to propose the title for my new book. Caveat: World War Three title is verbotten, because it was already abused by a bunch of political "scientists".

A Review Of My Book (First) By French Revue Defense Nationale.

An interesting approach by French defense publication to my first book, except that they are critical of my "ad nauseam" reference to Great Patriotic War and losses USSR sustained in this war and, for some reason, think that while speaking about NATO's inability to defeat Russia in her geographic vicinity I am "boasting". 

Ainsi, pour Martyanov, « à moins d’un échange nucléaire, les États-Unis ne peuvent défaire dans une guerre conventionnelle la Russie ou la Chine dans leurs voisinages géographiques immédiats ». 

Of course, there is no boasting here at all--mostly a warning to those in Western circles who still believe, due to their military illiteracy, in NATO's (that is US) military omnipotence, that their beliefs are false. After all, if RAND and Mr. Ochmanek are on the record that:

“We lose a lot of people. We lose a lot of equipment. We usually fail to achieve our objective of preventing aggression by the adversary,” RAND analyst David Ochmanek told a security conference on Thursday. “In our games, when we fight Russia and China, blue gets its ass handed to it.”

I wouldn't call it boasting, but a realistic assessment of military potential. After all, many American military professionals share my point of view of modern warfare in peer-to-peer scenario. But, in the same time, it is good that the book makes some circles on the water and that it may help a transition to a much more focused second one, which is about modern warfare. So, all in all, good that some form of discussion is developing beyond the confines of am English-speaking world. For that I am really grateful to Revue Defense Nationale. In the end, my Google Translated impression is that the revue is generally positive. And, yes, I often do talk in broadsides--in fact, under present conditions, it seems the only way to address the most important issue of war and peace.

Some Fast Info On My Book.

Evidently, there will be an audio version of my book (seems a done deal) for very busy people who prefer listening to reading. Understandable. I asked specifically for Betty White to narrate the book--they declined;)

Just Wanted To Thank Many.

Once Andrei Raevsky (The Saker) posted his extended review of my book today, I know Clarity Press got some business in terms of direct orders. What was even more interesting is that my book, which is still NOT released to Amazon, already became a #1 best-seller in Military Policy category:

  

And hit #7 in War and Peace category.

I don't know how it translates in numbers, but my publisher was really happy. The book also scored near top-30 in Soviet/Russia history or something like that, so, all in all, not a bad start for a book which is mostly on direct orders from publisher and on pre-orders at Amazon. I am really tankful to those who invested their hard-earned money in this work but primarily--nothing will make me happier if this book will help to initiate long overdue discussion on the present state of the world and how to avoid a military catastrophe. It is in everyone's interests.

So, the printing of the bulk of it should start fairly soon. Way earlier than Amazon's date of September 1. Jet, as promised--one is on me.  

UPDATE: I just spoke to publisher. The book went into print yesterday. It takes about a month for it to hit publisher's distributor and then another week to hit Amazon. The book, however, is already available directly through Clarity Press and could be bought at their site by clicking here, or on the pic of the book in the right upper corner.

Just Signed The Contract.

Again, sorry for slowdown but I was (and still am) up to my ears in trying to meet deadlines, all kinds of them, but there are some good news. I just finally signed the contract for the book with publishing house and, granted I am still alive by then, I should be able to finish most of manuscript in a couple-three months. A lot of it is done already. So, I'll try my best to be as entertaining as humanly possible under such conditions plus United States Naval Institute informed me that my new large post should be in their Blog by Monday. So, for observers of naval and, in general, military affairs there will be some food for thought. Strategic thought too. I am running on empty this week and apart from desirable cigar on my porch today I may even get to the memory lane. Ah, dancing with my future wife on a dance floor at our naval academy "discotheque" sometime in 1983. Come on, I also have feelings, you know;-) Anyhow, enjoy a wonderful song by Kim Carnes. How many of those contemporary "stars" can write anything comparable.

Assault on normalcy, on common sense, on morality continues unabated. Even children are not beyond its reach anymore. Insanity begins to take a grotesque forms and it manifests itself not only in art, but in economy, in foreign policy, even in war. Nothing sacred left. Europe is done, it is over--even if to consider that Marine may win elections in France. Will this change anything, when the very fabric of once "Western" societies is completely torn to pieces? We have today huge numbers of politically active population in the nominal "West" which is not only not revolted by this, but applauds it and promotes it as "a new normal". Same is in US. The West has gone to hell and big trouble is not just coming, it is already here--social, economic, cultural pressures are building and there is no release valve. War? I mean a real huge war? I am not even sure that it may relieve or redress contradictions anymore. I need to collect my thoughts to address this in more analytical, rational manner and I, probably, will at some point of time. The world is pregnant with revolution, the quickening is upon us.

 

Should I Write A Book?

I was thinking about it for a while but the range of things I would love to cover is fairly large and, knowing that some people read my blog, I would like to ask their opinion on what subjects (and most of you already know my range) should I concentrate? I need to narrow things down and outside feedback would be highly appreciated.
