A Carrot.

Explanation of Putin's "offer", which remains on the table for more than three years now. Here is Colonel (ret.) Earl Rasmussen of the US Army explaining very well what this is all about:

Keep in mind, this is framing not for 404, but for Euro NATO, in fact it is about testing their "intentions" on public. It was, obviously, irresponsible of Kremlin journalists pool to spread BS about "exploding" the US prime-time, so much so that Peskov had to immediately react saying that there are no intentions to "explode" anything. Putin merely repeated the point he repeats constantly. But then again, there is very little difference between journalist and a crack whore. But I repeat myself.

In Diplomatic Pigeon Speak ...

 ... it means--nope. No cigar.

The ongoing negotiations to secure peace in the Ukraine conflict are “difficult,” but Russia remains committed to achieving a resolution, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday. Peskov's comments follow US President Donald Trump’s statement that he expects a response from Moscow on a proposed peace agreement with Kiev later this week. Speaking to reporters, the Kremlin spokesman was asked whether Trump’s remarks suggested any behind-the-scenes agreements between Washington and Moscow. He acknowledged some progress in efforts to resolve the conflict but stressed that numerous challenging issues remain on the table. “We believe that certain progress can already be stated. This progress is related to the temporary moratorium that Russia adhered to — a moratorium on not striking energy infrastructure facilities,” Peskov said. He added that while Moscow has honored this moratorium, “the same cannot be said for the Ukrainian side.”

How do we know that Russia has a contingency plan for the US "withdrawal"? Well, through Moscow being nonchalant about this prospect.

Peskov was also asked to comment on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the US could abandon its efforts to reach a peace deal between Moscow and Kiev if it feels that no progress is being made on the issue. The spokesman stated that whether or not the US would actually withdraw from the settlement process is a question that should be asked in Washington.

This is what I preach non-stop now: the ball will now remain in the US corner permanently until the US makes a decision. There are no good options for the US, but one of them allows to save remnants of the face. At least for domestic audience.

Meanwhile, France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot hails the meeting of the EU foreign ministers on May 9 in Kiev as a "counter" to Moscow's celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory, as a huge win for French "diplomacy".

I agree, France belongs in the lair of neo-Nazi regime, as does most of Europe. I can only repeat Keitel's quip about French in May 1945, "What, did these guys defeat us too?” Of course, they didn't, and May 9th is not France's to celebrate--they have been willing accomplices of the Third Reich, no matter how these losers try to rewrite history.

Russian Forces Respond ...

... to Witkoff))) It reads--I am flying to improve the background for negotiations (c) This is the UMPK block--standard for most Russian air launched "dumb" FAB munitions turned into SMART ones. Devastating accuracy I may add.

And Again, And Again ...

... and again, for those who still buy into the Western media BS, here is Larry from Moscow.

Putin’s position regarding Ukraine has not changed. He will not negotiate with Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky is no longer the constitutional authority in Ukraine. He must be replaced and Russia will only talk to his successor. Russia is not going to make any territorial concessions. Zaporhyzhia and Kherson, along with Donetshk and Luhansk, are now permanent members of the Russian Federation. That is non-negotiable. I was struck by Donald Trump’s comment today, where he opined that Ukraine may cease to exist as a country. It appears to me he is starting to pay attention to daily Presidential Daily Brief and that Tulsi Gabbard, in her new role as the Director of National Intelligence, is making sure that the President is getting an unvarnished briefing on the true situation in Ukraine.

Agree with Larry completely--Tulsi knew the situation long before Trump was elected. Now, with her in the powerful position it becomes clear that Trump gets REAL intelligence on SMO and the "spread" so to speak. In Russian circles there is a "rumor" circulating that Russian position on 404 may even be tougher than initial conditions given to the US delegation in Saudi Arabia. Looks like there will be de Facto Russian bases in what is called причерноморье (near Balck Sea) --Odessa and Nikolaev--a euphemism for eventual joining Russia de Jure--while the whole political system of 404 will be overhauled per Russia's design.

Yes, Aaand?

Poor sods still do not understand what SMO is all about. This is because they do not understand war.

Concerns are growing on whether Russia will be willing to compromise on anything when it comes to peace negotiations surrounding its war with Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior Russian officials have continued to reject US negotiating terms while demanding that Ukraine surrender territory that Russia does not occupy.

Evidently history is not a strong point of sewer creatures from London, otherwise they could have taken at least basic course in strategy and operations. Granted, not in UK whose military and its "academic" foundation are a joke. But, at this stage it is clear that Europe is facing its worst nightmare, while the US is looking for exit--the US simply has no resources left to continue with this war and this is the logic behind Trump Administration maneuvers. But yes, I think Ze is done and then ...

Was Difficult To Imagine Otherwise.

Pretty clear.

Translation: MOSCOW, May 7 - RIA Novosti. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are possible on Moscow’s terms, while the readiness of both Kyiv and its Western curators for the negotiation process is not yet visible, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky told RIA Novosti. “Possible - on our terms. Ukraine and the Nazi ideology, of which this puppet regime is the bearer, is losing. Therefore, if they are ready to negotiate on our terms - complete denazification, demilitarization and much more, which we have already put forward as a demand in 2022 - in In this case, we can think about it,” Slutsky told RIA Novosti in response to the question whether, in his opinion, negotiations with Ukraine are possible. He noted that Vladimir Zelensky’s decree is still in force, which prohibits him from any negotiations.

I want to remind people who continuously worry about Russia somehow yielding to combined West and starting negotiations. Apart from the obvious ad nauseam statements from Moscow that the West is not ready to negotiate, keep in mind this critical clause--with the consideration of the realities on the ground(c). This is critical, because this is the condition which terrifies West (nobody counts 404 and what it wants), because it is the doorway to de jure unconditional surrender. I am not talking about just geography, I am talking about operational-strategic situation on the theater of operations and we know now that the West exhausted its resources completely. It was de-fanged in the most brutal and merciless manner. It still can send a few tanks or artillery pieces here and there, but proverbial COFM (Correlation of Forces and Means) is decisively on Russia's side.

Now another set of lamentations follows. Walter Russell Mead demonstrates yet again that all those "shiny" degrees in "strategy" from any US higher learning institutions aren't worth shit and are nothing more than degrees in hodgepodge collection of military-political facts, much of which are not even facts at all. Walter Russel Mead is a classic example of such ignoramus--a requirement for writing for WSJ.
Seriously? Somebody has to explain to those "academics" that it is fucking 2024 and not 1924 with those magnificent iron ships of the line with their 16 inch guns blowing the shit out of defenseless tribes. The United States wanted the war--she's got one. Technological reality is a bitch and two can play the game of proxies. If you know what I mean. Recall this wonderful definition of the change in the negotiating position:
Did Walter Russel Mead and his colleagues shyster-"strategists" watch this wonderful movie? It is very instructive.

A Lesson In Real Realism.

I do follow Daniel Larison's writing periodically and just yesterday he posted a note about ABM Treaty, or rather its abrogation by the United States. In it he notes, correctly:

The Folly of Leaving the ABM Treaty, 20 Years Later.Withdrawing from the ABM Treaty was an early Bush blunder, but it is one whose costs we continue to pay even now.

In his piece he refers to Mr. James Acton of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (LOL)))  who also laments, not unreasonably, this blunder with ABM Treaty. Acton writes:

It’s clear now that withdrawing was an epic mistake. The United States’ homeland missile defenses are porous; why else would Washington worry that North Korea is deploying intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs)? Yet those defenses have succeeded in fueling arms races with Russia, whose hostility toward the United States is alive and well, and now with China too. This experience should prompt Washington to try to negotiate new limits on missile defenses, and it provides a cautionary tale about the very real costs of withdrawing from international agreements. Bush’s central contention was that the treaty “prevents us from developing effective defenses.” He was wrong on two counts. First, the treaty wasn’t the problem. Physics was. And engineering. And program management. And budgets.

Obviously it is true but another (third) count Acton misses (not surprisingly for a person working for Carnegie Endowment) is the fact that neither Bush and his infested with neocons administration nor other administrations which followed had any clue what they were dealing with. Namely, Russia. Remarkably Larison IS on record about the utter ignorance of the US establishment, both political and what passes in the US for intellectual, on the account of the world outside. But if there is a country which represents a complete caricature in the American elitist mind it is Russia. The other count on which US establishment is ignorant is a real war (I doubt Mr. Acton understands it either) and, more generally, the nature of the conflict on the global scale. It is a cultural issue and most even smart people such as Mr. Acton do have serious difficulties penetrating the depth of it.

Surely, Acton's background of a physicist makes him somewhat more predisposed to a rational thinking but here too we immediately are reminded that cultural ignorance doesn't spare even Ph.Ds in Theoretical Physics from Cambridge. Acton does admit that what Russia does technologically pretty much nullifies US efforts in ABM defenses but that is far as it goes. For starters, Acton lies, even if he doesn't understand it (which is even more damaging) and I return back to the first quote from him, read attentively:

Yet those defenses have succeeded in fueling arms races with Russia, whose hostility toward the United States is alive and well.

Judging by the looks of Acton and, especially, the start of his activity as a scientist which falls on the second half of the first decade of 2000s, it is reasonable to assume that he met the collapse of the Soviet Union and immediate consequences of this collapse in 1990s being of a fairly tender age and having zero life experiences and self-awareness to assess times when Russia not only was NOT hostile to the US, but with the incredible energy tuned herself into a door mat for the United States up to the point of self-humiliation. Russians loved and admired the United States and then Yugoslavia happened. He doesn't remember that, I do. So, he lies following a classic BS taught in Anglo-world as a "history", hence his other quote from him.

The tens of billions of dollars that the United States has poured into homeland missile defense since 2001 have proved ineffective, and they have fueled arms races with China and Russia that have undermined U.S. security. President Joe Biden’s administration has sensibly identified arms control as a way to manage these growing dangers. A willingness to negotiate new limits on homeland missile defenses—in return for significant concessions from China and Russia—should be part of its approach.

Acton does not recognize (he can't) that starting from late 1980s USSR (and then Russia) was surrendering one after another, in an act of unprecedented historically generosity, bordering on folly, her  strategic advantages. Not that the United States didn't benefit from those--the list is very long. And Russia learned her lesson. Mr. Acton, evidently, not, if he ever knew what that lesson was. I am sure he was never taught that in Cambridge--for that you need to attend a serious higher military educational facility. That is why what is highlighted in yellow is preposterous and could be only the product of a person with a white board life experiences and zero foreign policy, military and geopolitical acumen.

LESSON IN REALISM FOR JAMES ACTON:

No normal nation, especially Russia after her experiences with what Pat Buchanan described as:

Would trade any of her growing military-technological advantage over the United States, especially when the United Sates has zero on offer. Not because the US is holding back, but because there is nothing of value, bar general geopolitical favors, to offer in exchange. Because you don't exchange 3M22 Zircon for F-35, you do not trade S-550 or A-235 Nudol for THAAD or AEGIS ashore. Would Acton trade his 2020 Ferrari Pista Coupe (Russians, and other Slavs here, you keep your mouths shut;)) for Chevrolet Citation without cash? Would he trade his Ph.D in Theoretical Physics from Cambridge for AA in creative writing from local community college? The answer seems obvious. Geopolitics is not a charity. But Acton's arrogance and ignorance of the modern history of the last 40 years shows. What can possibly the United States offer to Russia and her people, who observe the American collapse in real time and whose only concern is not to allow the United States and its lap dogs unleash the war in a desperate attempt to hold on to elusive power for a little bit longer.

Russia's is not trading her military edge, she is using it to keep the combined West within limits until it either sorts itself out or collapses into oblivion but without taking the rest of the humanity with it. But to understand that, one has to know Russia and her history, especially starting from 1812. It is now too late to cry about the fate of ABM Treaty, what is done--is done. Time to face consequences--a concept modern Western elites will learn soon. In fact, the process has already started. Ah yes, I warned 8 years ago that the time to negotiate is now until it is too late and the time of the ultimatums, not concessions, comes. Well, Mr. Acton, that time has arrived and it is not the West which issues them. Because any treaty with the West and its leader, the United States, is not worth the paper it is written on.

Mr. Pompeo Goes to Sochi and Moscow.

Ok, US Secretary of the State Pompeo will travel to Russia to, quoting, AFP:
It is, of course, a positive development, once one considers alternatives, but as Russian media report (in Russian), while Iran, Venezuela and other hot issues are on the agenda, it is the issue of arms control which Washington is most interested in. Obviously State Department paints this seemingly noble effort with a broad brush, talking about multi-lateral negotiations (well, China, it's you)--this is all fine and dandy, who would argue against that. Except, two teeny-weeny issues:

1. China's Intermediate Range missiles--that means reach of any US base around China, Diego Garcia included, and that is a big no-no for the US in a scenario of China's containment, but...

2. By far the most important issue for the US are those mysterious weapons nasty Russkies invented to prevent peaceful triumphant spread of democracy--those weapons will be discussed. Of course, to no avail.

Russia once trusted the US, in 1990s. We all know how it all played out, for Russia. So, do not expect Russia to be so utterly stupid as to even negotiate any latest weapon systems many of which...drum roll...are "ambivalent". You know, exactly as the United States proclaims its "no first use" ambivalence supported by the vague justifications for the use of nuclear weapons, as the saying goes--two can play the game. Then, of course, nobody in Russia takes Trump (or his Pompeo envoy) seriously anymore. Trump is militarist and his overtures to Russia, from the inception, have nothing to do with desire to reach stable and just geopolitical equilibrium but a desire to "triangulate" and enroll Russia in US, most likely, last stand against China. People in Kremlin can calculate and do operate within reality-based paradigm, a feature everyone of any significance in Moscow knows is missing from current American outlook on herself and the world outside Washington D.C.

No, of course, as I stated not for once, talking is better than fighting, but the truth is--today the United Sates simply has NO geopolitical currency left to pay for anything of value. Especially such value as Russia. Sanctions on Russia? Sure! In fact, not for once I and many other people in Russia stated--sanctions are good for Russia, they drive her modernization, while driving Russia's liberasts--main source of info on Russia for US intelligence and "academe"--totally insane. Double win for Russia. Russia certainly is not going to attack the US but she will never refuse a massive lead in military technologies which provide her with the revolver at the temple of American insane exceptionalists and neocons. Such as, and you guessed it already, Pompeo or Trump's very own draft dodger and, as Rod Ridenour states in his book, one of many Trump's very own Dr.Strangeloves, he surrounded himself with--I am talking about Bolton, of course. Who in their mind would even seriously discuss anything with these people? Meetings? Sure. Talking? Sure. But no arrangement can be made with the United States anymore, since it is increasingly non-governable entity with utterly corrupt political institutions at the very top.

Two years ago I stated:
It seems the opposite had happened and no amount of spin can help to hide anymore the obvious fact that Trump's human and political failure is just the symptom of a much larger underlying condition, a very American condition in essence, a complete loss of touch with the reality.
