Interesting event. 

On September 17th, the Litfond foundation will hold an auction featuring the first printed biography of Ivan the Terrible. The book is by the Lutheran pastor Paul Oederborn, published in Görlitz in 1588. This is the first biography of the Russian monarch in European printing; the next Russian Tsar, Peter I, would not be the subject of a separate book in the West for another century. However, the work is considered not a biography, but a political pamphlet – the culmination of a propaganda campaign against the Moscow Tsardom after the Livonian War. It is classified as part of the "Ivanian" movement, within which the image of Russia was shaped as "Anti-Europe."
