The New Economics of Precision-Guided Weapons

The importance of such unmanned systems is not only determined by range. For modern warfare, the cost of one high-precision defeat plays an increasingly important role. The ability to use a more massive and relatively inexpensive means where a classic aviation missile was previously required is changing the economics of using high-precision weapons. Along with range and accuracy, serial production, the availability of various carriers and the possibility of mass use are important characteristics.

In other words, not only the qualities of an individual munition are becoming important, but also the number of high-precision effects that industry and aviation are able to provide for the same amount of resources as before. That is, there is a clear trend towards reducing the cost of guided weapons without a significant decrease in their effectiveness.

These are the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, the Tornado-S and Sarma MLRS with guided rockets, the Krasnopol guided artillery shells, a wide range of loitering ammunition, including various models of Kub drones of the Kalashnikov Concern. The new jet UAVs will significantly complement this portfolio, providing long-range high-precision destruction of targets at a lower cost than traditional missiles. In the near future, these drones should become a standard tool for front-line aviation along with well-proven bombs with UMPK," Rostec summed up.

Again, when I say that the US lost the arms race I mean it not only technologically, which is the case. In terms of quantities and especially in terms of stand-off weaponry the US doesn't even register anymore as serious power with its anemic production (even if the surge succeeds) of the only two serious stand off weapons in its arsenal--BGM 109 Tomahawk and AGM-158 JASSM. Their combined production is a tiny fraction of a new types of weapons such as Geranium-4, 5 and Banderol and Dan'. New optronic (machine vision) channels on all those weapons and likely appearance of active radar homing on them turn those into a deadly shoot-and-forget stand-off weaponry produced in thousands per month (as in 30 days)--US simply has no industrial capacity to match no matter what. Per Europe--nobody is going to fight it conventionally if those cretins will decide to attack (with what?)--they will cease to exist in under 45 minutes.
