It is a short distance from Dnepropetrovsk. But it is also a critical supply hub to Slavyansk-Kramatorsk Festung, which NATO so carefully built for the last 10 years.

There is very little after Slavyansk and Kramatorsk on the wat to Pavlograd and, consequently, left bank of Dnepr. Medvedev pretty explicit in describing the situation:
