Власти США угрожали аннулировать паспорта американским ветеранам Второй мировой войны, изъявившим желание посетить Москву для участия в праздничных мероприятиях 9 Мая, заявил посол России в Вашингтоне Анатолий Антонов в видеообращении по случаю Дня Победы. "Второй год подряд усилиями администрации США сорвана поездка американских участников Второй мировой войны на парад Победы. На фронтовиков оказывалось беспрецедентное давление. Их даже запугивали аннулированием паспортов, чтобы они не могли вылететь в Россию и принять участие в праздновании 78-й годовщины Великой Победы", — рассказал он.

Translation: WASHINGTON, May 8 - RIA Novosti. U.S. authorities have threatened to revoke the passports of U.S. World War II veterans who have expressed a desire to visit Moscow to attend the May 9 festivities, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said in a video message on the occasion of Victory Day. "For the second year in a row, the efforts of the US administration disrupted the trip of American participants in the Second World War to the Victory Parade. Unprecedented pressure was exerted on the front-line soldiers. They were even intimidated by the cancellation of their passports so that they could not fly to Russia and take part in the celebration of the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory," he said.

"Этот шаг оскорбителен не только для ветеранов, сражавшихся против нацизма, но и для всех, кто помнит священный подвиг. Мы хотим, чтобы американские фронтовики знали: Россия гордится их вкладом в общую Победу", — сказал Антонов.

Translation: "This step is insulting not only for the veterans who fought against Nazism, but also for everyone who remembers the sacred feat. We want the American front-line soldiers to know that Russia is proud of their contribution to the common Victory,” Antonov said.

You cannot put it better than this. But then again, when was the last time they taught in US schools who this guys was.
