I went to Wiki to check this and lo and behold, Kimo Loka was right))) They changed the WiKi page of this clown, who is very much representative of the majority of the decomposing UK Army (and Navy) and of the overall acute crisis in the Western military educational system which now primarily brainwashes its graduates on military history and provides a basic tactical minimum without going into the engineering and fundamental physics and mathematical principles of warfare. I want to reiterate--this is US Army's conclusion and that means that some of them are aware of the issue. 

One can memorize Clausewitz or Sun-Tzu's one-liners whatever one wants but to understand targeting, netcentricity and modern weapons, among many other things, officer today must have serious STEM background. The times of just getting some tribal knowledge and some technical minutiae behind one's belt are long gone, and it is not enough anyway. And this cannot be addressed anymore considering a DEI catastrophe in the American public school educational system with its utterly dumbed down math with physics and chemistry (going under the title of Science) curricula which prevents any serious level for the entrance into ROTC, let alone service academies which suffer from academic woes for decades. Do not expect much change any time soon. 

And now about THEM reading (or rather lurking around my blog and videos) me--of course they do. Pardon my arrogance for a minute here, but I am well-known person in military and intel circles around the world. Many professionals, some of whom may not like me and what I have to say at all, also read me. My books are in the Pentagon's library. I am also read by journos, probably even from the MSM. In the end--their military "sources" are the same people who facilitated American geopolitical catastrophe due to own hubris, illiteracy and, frankly, utter lack of professionalism. They also hate me for me exposing who those in the shadows are--credentialed amateurs. As per those "experts" like this clown Hamish De Bretton-Woods--he is an easy target because he has no clue about the real war. It still gives me a guilty pleasure to humiliate these illiterate credentialed fanatics who never graduated beyond junior tactical officer with degree in agriculture. Would you allow a local plumber to perform an open-heart surgery on you? Of course not, and here lies your rather simple answer. As per "Russia Study" field--such does not exist in the West.

That would apply to these "military experts" in UK who pretend that they are slightly more than terrorists and have a grasp of war and applied geopolitics. Remember this cretin?

Ukraine is humiliating Putin at the worst possible moment. 

The new year brings rather more hope to President Zelensky than Vladimir Putin, I judge. The latter may have been a brilliant spy but is being exposed as a dreadful military commander. He has forgotten, or more likely is unaware of, the principles of warfare, most especially the one that says reinforce success not failure. With his three-week special military operation now approaching its fourth year, it seems most likely that Zelensky will still be in power this time next year and Putin’s best hope may be a villa in North Korea or breaking rocks in the Urals. Russian history does not paint a rosy picture for failed dictators.

The NATO militaries, including the US Army generals paraded themselves throughout the SMO as nothing more than credentialed amateurs, who can operate only on templates created on utterly false premises from history to technology. But even considering the fact that British tabloids are just that, a BS peddlers, one has to ask the question, with CV like that: 

What do you expect? Exactly. But when one has no elementary self-respect and NATO armies and fleets are commanded by people with degrees in agriculture, biology or God forbids, journalism, no number of hours in some staff college is going to address a gaping hole in professional military education and integrity which comes with Esprit de corps--a thing beyond the grasp of British military, a demoralized, shrinking lilliputian force which is shown its true miniscule scale by the enemy British loved to hate since 18th century.
