Among very few American military leaders of global repute Chester Nimitz occupies a special place and he is a towering figure in naval warfare of the XX century and a legendary leader. The house MUST be restored and preserved. This is a shame that this is not an acting museum and is not open for public--I would love to visit. In the end, Admiral commanded not just Pacific Fleet in WW II, he commanded all forces on the whole theater, and then he served as Chief of Naval Operations. He left a strategic historic work (with Potter and a group of officers), a legendary Sea Power--I have a copy. How come, that this remarkable man and his house is not a historic site is beyond me--what a shame.
