Therapeutic "Analysis".

H.I. Sutton passes in the US for naval and submarine expert but his biography is sketchy at best, at worst--he is more informed iteration of Bellingcat's very own Elliott Higgins with naval slant. I don't really read his "analysis" related to Soviet and Russian navies, because it is primarily same ol' narrative one can find anywhere in the US "professional" military "analysis" sphere in all kinds of blogs and YouTube channels and which is primarily an instrument for regurgitation of the same points about US military which brought it to the state in which it resides today and it is not a very good state. So, even against the background of one of a very few truly world class forces remaining in the US, its magnificent submarine force, the need for mental therapy increases exponentially with every passing day in the US OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) community. Here is Sutton doing just that--"comparing" the latest project 885M (Yasen M) Russian Navy's SSGN (such as Kazan) and Virginia Block V SSNs which are not in existence yet. OK.

How Russia’s Yasen-M Submarine Compares To The U.S. Navy’s Block-V Virgini. Russia is rapidly modernizing its cruise-missile submarine fleet. At the same time, the U.S. Navy is building larger and more capable versions of the Virginia Class which carry more missiles. How do the latest submarine classes compare in terms of weapons load?

For starters, Russian Navy's Yasen-class program is in full swing and has three active subs, one fitting out, and five others being under construction. USS Oklahoma (SSN-802) of Virginia Block V class was ordered in December of 2019 and is under construction and is planned to be delivered to fleet in 2025, if all goes as planned. By the time, ball park, fourth and fifth hulls of Block V Virginias will be getting ready to join the fleet, the comparison should be made not with Yasen-class, but with brand-new Russian SSN Laika (Husky)-class whose first hull should get floated out in 2027. But that is just me being anal about the proper framework for comparison. Sutton's next statement betrays a serious need for controlling therapeutically a lot of issues related to actual combat power and its comparison, which in layman's lingo is known as butt-hurt.

Krasnoyarsk is a Project 885M ‘Yasen-M’ class boat (aka Severodvinsk-II class), the 3rd of 8 planned. These represent the most modern and powerful attack submarines in the Russian inventory. And they are often described as being on a par with the latest western types. But how do they stack up? Particularly in weapons terms? Other aspects such as sonar, sensors and stealth are harder to compare given the sensitive nature of these topics. Both submarines are believed to be extremely difficult to counter. The stand-off weapons however are a major component of the submarine’s punch.

The parity in terms of submarine platforms' performances between Russia and US occurred sometime in the late 1990s and since then it is absolutely legitimate to NOT compare Russian and US nuclear subs in terms of quieting, other physical fields, signal processing, combat control and mechanical qualities--they will be plus-minus the same. This is not a theorem, this is an axiom. So, for any comparison in terms of platforms (and submarines, ships and planes are platforms first and foremost) between Russia and US, those platforms should be compared ONLY in terms of weapon systems they carry. In the end, the role of a platform is to get a weapon installed on it, deliver this weapon to the point of launch and launch it, hopefully, achieving a desired effect. Period. But these are weapons where the United States is having huge issues in the last decades. But Sutton, describing Block V's weapons, loses last bits of objectivity and states:

The Yasen-M’s 32 vertical tubes can accommodate three missile types. On paper this versatility could convey an advantage although the performance of the US Navy’s Tomahawk cruise missiles is hard to dispute.

The immediate question which arises here is this: if Sutton compares Yasen and Virginia's loads of stand-off weapons, this dyadic connection suggests that these subs should be used against their respective operators in the war, that is the war between Russia and US. This is the ONLY framework which justifies such comparisons, because, frankly, platforms and weapons they carry are built always with combat tasks in mind. Come on, we are not kids here trying to compare whose bike is better. This is the war we are talking about, FFS. And that makes Sutton's statement about venerable Tomahawk grossly inaccurate. Not only Tomahawk never performed against even second-world air defense system, but when it encountered, such as was the case in Syria in April of 2018, a moderately competent Syrian AD, 70% of those TLAMs (and "rumor" has it JASSMs too) were shot down which created a shock in Pentagon, with its officials, including SecDef Jim Mattis himself, forced to lie to mitigate an obvious PR disaster.

I don't know what performance of Tomahawks Sutton is talking about, but there is little problem with uploading a flight task to cruise missile and launching it at some shithole, Russians do it too. So, what "performance" from the subsonic stand-off weapon is he talking about? Yes, 3M14 was used both from subs and ships and its new iteration with the range of 4500 kilometers has been launched already at Kavkaz-2020 maneuvers. Until those TLAMs face a competent Air Defense, there is nothing to talk about. The problem, of course, is that the United States doesn't have any, unlike it is the case with Russia, and this teeny-weeny fact throws all this "comparison" business into a complete disarray. In fact, Russian military professionals have a term for it--I bet Sutton never heard of it--"A Spherical Horse in Vacuum".

Sutton's emphasis on this, however, is a pure therapy--an attempt to mitigate what I am writing about for years: the US' loss of the arms race. Here is Sutton:

The Yasen-M Class boats are larger and carry more weapons than their western equivalents. They will also be quicker to field hypersonic weapons (although service introduction is going slower than previously reported). But they carry fewer cruise missiles than the enlarged Block V Virginia Class. This will significantly narrow the gap even before the US Navy adds hypersonic weapons and the anti-ship capable Tomahawks.

Immediately:

1. The only hypersonic missiles which may appear on any US ship are many years away and those will NOT be dedicated anti-shipping missiles but rather land-attack variants. The United States lost the anti-shipping missiles race long time ago, namely in 1970s.

2. Anti-ship capable Tomahawk is the same as regular TLAM--a subsonic, slow, easy target for modern air-defense systems, especially over the water surface, and is in no way competitor to a current and future arsenal of Russia's anti-shipping missiles, in which even nominally subsonic 3M54 Kalibr (now with the launch range of 1,500 kilometers)  accelerates to M=3 at the terminal.

The United States will continue to build wonderful, plus ridiculously expensive, submarines with all bells and whistles, but those mean absolutely nothing if they are armed with obsolete weapons which lost their tactical advantages long time ago. And no amount of therapeutic analysis and contrived criteria will be able to address a present (in historic terms) Indiana Jones moment:

You either have a weapon system which works, or you don't, and that is the only thing which matters. Anti-shipping capable Tomahawk, my God, what's next? The return of cannon-balls and sails?

This Is THE Mother Of All ICBMs.

RS-28 Sarmat is coming on-line in 2022, while good ol' Topol is being retired and is being substituted with RS-24 Yars ICBMs. But again, all of them pale in comparison to RS-28.

Russia is poised to begin test flights of a new liquid-fueled, super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has confirmed. The missiles are expected to enter service in 2022. “Flight tests [will begin] this year and should be completed in 2022. In 2022, the first batch should enter service with the strategic missile forces,” Shoigu said on Friday while visiting Krasmash, a machine-building plant in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. The new RS-28 Sarmat ICBM is capable of carrying 16 warheads. The advanced silo-based system features a heavy liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile, and is to replace the R-36M/R-36M2 Voevoda ICBM. The new missile will be capable of hitting targets using either the North Pole or South Pole route, effectively bypassing any defense system employed by a potential enemy.
The United States also works on some form of its strategic missile forces upgrade but the cost of upgrading US strategic missile forces is astronomical. This is how Congressional Budget Office sees it.

But the general consensus is that the whole thing will exceed $1.2 trillion. Another interesting issue if Ukraine, where previous generation of the Soviet ICBMs, such as RS-36 Voevoda, lovingly called by Pentagon Satan, were produced, leaked information on Satan to the United States. I am sure a lot of info on that missile has been "exported" to the United States, so Russia needed super-heavy ICBM one way or another and Sarmat got the green light, and boy, if RS-36 was called Satan, how do you call Sarmat? The Evil, the Beelzebub, the Most Evilest Satan of Them All? Hey, as long as it works, who cares how it is called. After all, recall that these magnificent C3 ships of the Soviet Navy:
Project 1941 Titan were named by NATO...Cabbage. Well, if Su-57 was given a handle of Felon by NATO, boy, I feel a lot of butt-hurt on NATO's part in failing to find an appropriate (F--fighter planes' names start with this letter) handle for Su-57. How about Falcon, ahh, wait. OK, how about Fury, or Fuse or something, hey, even Flying Fuck will do. But Felon? Russians resolved that issue for themselves in the most practical way possible--they call NATO's equipment as it is called by NATO itself. The only item which ever got its own handle (unofficial) which stuck for it forever in USSR and Russia are Los Angeles class SSNs know all over Russian Navy as Moose (Лоси).  So, it is going to be very interesting to observe what final handle will be given to RS-28 Sarmat and I hope it is not a Thug or Gangsta, let alone Cabbage or Shiitake. On the other hand, that last one...

Maddow Is Not a Journalist...

...as are not most US talking heads, they are BSers and ideologues, the equivalent of the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee's ideological department, with fake credentials in "humanities". Well, I already posted on deranged enthusiast of anti-Trump movement, Rachel Maddow before, now, it looks like, Devin Nunes had it.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California) has filed a lawsuit against NBCUniversal and MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, claiming they harbor “institutional hostility” towards him. Nunes’ lawyers argue in the suit, filed in Sherman, Texas, that Maddow’s bias against their client stems from him becoming “the most prominent skeptic in Congress of Maddow’s marquee news narrative from 2017 to 2019: that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to hack the 2016 presidential elections.” Maddow was one of the most vocal media voices suggesting, while lacking any hard evidence, that Donald Trump colluded with Russia to somehow influence the 2016 presidential election.
Practically any talking head from the US MSM can be taken to court, because ethics and integrity are the terms which are not applicable to main stream media in combined West in principle. It goes both liberal and "conservative" (quotation marks are on purpose) ways, but the majority of the blame for turning the United States into an Exhibit A of a severe psychotic episode goes to DNC establishment media, despite the fact that Donald Trump was an incompetent POTUS. In the end, "lefty" MSM produced even more incompetent, and suffering from a fairly advanced stage of dementia, POTUS, who obviously operates on a cocktail of drugs for people in his condition.

So, CNN once was taken to the cleaners:
CNN has reached a settlement with Nick Sandmann, the high school student who sued the network over its coverage of an incident that went viral last year in which he appeared with a Native American activist at the Lincoln Memorial.A spokesperson for CNN confirmed that a settlement had been reached but declined comment on the details. Sandmann wrote on Twitter, “Yes, We settled with CNN.”
This is the only way to deal with lowlifes who populate (and own) US establishment media and I am still puzzled why nobody yet took James Clapper to court for his racist anti-Russian statements. But then again, such people as Clapper or Maddow, due to their genetic composition (???) are not worthy of being considered professionals in what they do. After all, even court established the fact that Maddow is not dealing with news, or, for that matter, facts--but with own "opinion". This opinion being that of an emotionally unstable person with a host of mental issues. But at this stage that what establishment political MSM are--a collection of psychopaths. Normal people wouldn't make it there in 90% of the cases. But suing those ass-holes could and should become a cottage industry. Or maybe a full blown one.

More On Russians In China.

Yep, looks like a full blown military alliance to me, with common procedures and Chinese really going out of their way to make Russians feel comfortable. What can I say...

It is a fast moving day, check on fires in Turkey and that explains a lot.

Good Ol' "Friends" Of Mujaheddin...

...are being transferred by Russia to Tajik-Afghan border, "just in case", as were transferred updated BMPs a few days ago. Russia increases her presence there and it is only natural, since both Tajikistan and even Uzbekistan are expressing a desire to see Russians there. Good ol' "friends" of "holy warriors", Mi-24 "Hinds" are getting ready to recall their combat youth in case Taliban does something stupid at the border.

You do not really need much, just night vision goggles and good ol' warriors Mi-24 and Mi-8 (17), which can operate from anywhere under any conditions short of natural disaster. ISIS, mujaheddin and other terrorists can attest to it.

It Is Better To See Once...

than hear, or read it, constantly. Russian military trains on Chinese military equipment at the SIBU/Coordination-2021 exercises in China. Well, now you saw it. You don't need to know Russian, it is self-explanatory.

In related news, in the latest issue of Russia's immensely influential monthly Военная Мысль (Military Thought), General-Colonel Zarudnitsky, in the article Факторы достижения победы в военных конфликтах будущего (Factors in achieving the victory in the military conflicts of the future), just dropped a bomb, of sorts, on page 41 when disclosed that Russia works on a hypersonic long-range missile Kh-95 (X-95). Huge emphasis in the article is not merely on a technological advantage, which comes from a fusion of extremely advanced weapon systems and enablers, but on moral-psychological state of the armed forces and... I am not going there at this time.

Hm, I wonder what is this weapon since it is designed to be deployed on any Russian bomber, from TU-160(M) to upcoming PAK DA, which should be revealed to public in 2023. Russian internet went bananas in the last several hours of this news, and, as you might expect, this weapon will be the real deal, as are Kinzhal and 3M22 Zircon, which smoothly transitioned from concepts to actual working weapons. Remember, that for Russians "long-range" nowadays is a very, how to put it, impressive qualifier. I would go out on a limb here and say that 4.5-5,000 kilometers range at least, M=6+ throughout all flight, most likely. In other related news, Russia holds joint exercises with Uzbek forces and increased its contingent in Tajikistan. Well, here you are.

Ooops.

I don't follow Olympics, which have been, at the insistence and machinations of the combined West, completely discredited, but this, boy, just read the comments from Americans under this video.

Rumor has it, that Churchill once said about Field-Marshal Montgomery that Monty was 'Indomitable in retreat, invincible in advance, insufferable in victory.' I am not going to discuss the veracity of this Churchill's quote--it seems very accurate re: Monty--but if there are people who could have been worse than insufferable in victory, that would have been US Women's Soccer National Team, and its uber woke flaming Social Justice Warrior, and mediocre player, Megan Rapinoe. Should this knee-bending, third-wave feminism obsessed squad have won, we all wouldn't hear the end of it, despite the fact that their level of play and physical ability is that of a junior semi-amateur 15-year old boys soccer team. This is what I am talking about:

In preparation for two upcoming friendlies against Russia, the U.S. women’s national team played the FC Dallas U-15 boys academy team on Sunday and fell 5-2, according to FC Dallas’ official website.

That is why, frankly, Men's World Cup in soccer is the greatest most watched event in planet's sports' life and it dwarfs Olympics, NBA, NFL and other events by the order magnitude. But still: Thank you, Canada for defeating them and sparing us from listening their insufferable, obnoxious and arrogant self-praise. Yet, there was an American soccer team which not only was good, damn good but it literally made a world fall in love with it because they juts out of nowhere came out to show an amazingly beautiful and mature game and if not for the atrocity committed against them by the referee in the game against Germany, where US National Team dominated Germans, we could have seen the first ever North American team playing in WC finals. I remember Russian sports media applauding and admiring that team and its style (in Russian). It was difficult not to. An amazing counter-attacking machine, which could go to finals. In fact, they belonged there.

I remember those guys, like it was yesterday. They really made America proud and they, not Germany, should have played co-hosts, South Korea, in semi-finals. But it was one of the most blatant non-calls in the history of the sport which stopped these guys. Should they have equalized from penalty, they would have won Germany which was on its last legs, trying to beat back waves of the American attacks. This is HOW you win hearts and minds, not parading own woke self-righteousness and bending knees. Rapinoe and squad better watch videos of the US National Team at the World Cup in 2002--there is a huge lesson there.  This is how you make half of the world root for you, not against you, they call it a Beautiful Game for a reason. That is how American boys did it in 2002, they played beautifully and honorably, and made people fall in love with their game.
