Some of the leaders in Europe—Macron included—want this conflict with Russia to continue. We’ve talked about the military-industrial complex here in the United States that keeps beating the drums of war. Europe has one too. For that complex to keep growing and justifying itself, it needs a boogeyman. Right now, that boogeyman is Russia. As long as they keep repeating “Russia is the threat, Russia is the threat,” they get the budgets, the influence, and the political cover they want. The endless war narrative serves their interests, not the interests of the people paying for it or the soldiers on the ground. This isn’t about defending Europe from an imminent invasion. It’s about sustaining a system that requires a permanent enemy.
West's military-industrial complex exists only for the sake of profits. It was fully exposed as military-technological fraud stuck in 1990s. NATO cannot fight Russia, the short (in historic terms) period of triumphalism and self-aggrandizing in the wake of the Soviet collapse is over, has been for some time now. They cannot take it.
